HP GT51 Black Ink Bottle (MOH57AE)

The HP GT51 Black Ink Bottle (M0H57AE) is the refill bottle for HP's tank-based printers, the range built for people who print a lot and refuse to keep buying cartridges. There is no chip and no cartridge shell. You pour 90 ml of pigment black ink straight into the printer's built-in tank, and one bottle covers roughly 5,000 pages. On cost per page that is a different category of printing altogether from cartridge machines.

Genuine or compatible?

This is the Original HP bottle. Tank printers are unusually sensitive to what goes into them, because the ink sits in an open reservoir feeding a printhead you cannot cheaply replace. Cheap unbranded refill ink is the most common cause of a clogged GT printhead, and a clogged printhead usually costs more than the ink ever saved. Getting the most from this cartridge

• Refill before the tank runs dry, not after, since running a tank printer empty is what pulls air into the printhead.
• Match the bottle to the correct tank by cap colour and fill slowly to the marked line without overfilling.
• Keep the printer on a level surface and use it regularly.
• If the black tank is full but pages come out blank, run the printhead cleaning routine from the printer menu rather than refilling again.
