Genuine or compatible?
Genuine, Original HP in the sealed box. Not a refill and not our Royal house brand, which is always sold under the Royal name. HP has discontinued this cartridge, which matters when you are buying: remaining genuine stock is finite, and the gap gets filled by remanufactured and counterfeit product. The signs of a fake are grey rather than black text, poor fusing and toner escaping into the machine. On a printer that has already given you years of service, that is a poor trade. Getting the most from this cartridge
- Rock the cartridge gently side to side before fitting and remove the sealing strip completely.
- When print goes faint, take it out and rock it again before ordering. On these older designs that reliably buys another fifty pages or so.
- Store spares flat and boxed, away from heat and damp. Toner clumps in humidity and clumped toner streaks down the page.
- 2,500 pages assumes 5% coverage. Forms, invoices with heavy rules and dark headers will come in under that.
