Genuine or compatible?
Genuine, Original HP, sealed box. Not a refill and not our Royal house brand, which is always sold as Royal. These printers use four separate cartridges and carry HP's anti-counterfeit chip, so a non-genuine black is both more likely to be rejected and more likely to show as a mismatch against the three genuine colours beside it. If cost is the pressure, tell us and we will compare properly rather than just selling you the dearer box.

Getting the most from this cartridge
- Rock the cartridge gently before fitting and keep your fingers off the drum surface underneath.
- Black runs down fastest on a colour laser because text is most of what an office prints. Buy black singly rather than as part of a set and you will usually spend less over a year.
- Store spares boxed, upright and away from windows. Heat and light both shorten a colour laser cartridge's life on the shelf.
- 1,500 pages assumes 5% coverage. Presentations with shaded backgrounds and dark headers will use noticeably more.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there a higher-yield version? Yes, HP 201X black holds considerably more toner and fits the same printers.
- Do I need the colours too? Yes for colour printing. HP 201A cyan, magenta and yellow are sold separately at around 1,400 pages each.
- How fast is delivery? Same day within Nairobi, next working day to most towns.
- Can I return it? Yes, sealed and unused.
- Will the printer keep going if a colour is empty? Usually not, even for black-only work, so watch all four levels rather than just the black.
