Description
The HP 15 Core i7 with 8GB RAM and a 1TB drive is a 15.6-inch laptop with real processing headroom, aimed at people whose work involves several demanding applications at once. It ships with FreeDOS rather than Windows, which is where a good part of the price advantage comes from.
What it works with
Read this before you buy. FreeDOS is not Windows. Out of the box this machine will start up to a command prompt — no desktop, no Start menu, no Office, no browser. You need to install an operating system before it is usable in the normal sense. That is a perfectly sensible way to buy a laptop if you know it going in: a Windows licence bought separately, or a free Linux distribution installed instead. It is a bad surprise if nobody told you.
We will tell you the total cost with a Windows licence included before you decide, and we can install it for you. Ask.
Once an operating system is on it, the Core i7 and 8GB of RAM handle Microsoft 365, accounting packages, large spreadsheets, video calls and light photo and video editing comfortably.
Send us the model number for the exact port set and screen specification — the HP 15 line covers several processor generations.

Who this is for
Professionals, developers and students on technical courses who want the strongest processor available at the price and are comfortable installing their own operating system. It is also a good buy for organisations with volume Windows licensing already in place, since you are not paying twice.
One technical point most sellers will not mention: Intel's Iris Xe graphics, fitted to recent Core i7 chips, need two memory sticks to work at full capability. With a single stick they fall back to performing like basic UHD graphics. If this unit ships with 8GB as one stick, adding a second matching stick is the cheapest meaningful performance upgrade available. We will check the configuration for you.

Getting the most from this laptop
Install your operating system before you put any files on the machine. If you are going with Windows, buy the licence at the same time as the laptop so you are not left with an unusable computer over a weekend. Once running, keep the vents clear — an i7 runs warm and will throttle itself on a soft surface. Check whether the memory is one stick or two, for the reason above.
