The HP 131A black toner cartridge is the genuine Original HP replacement, part number CF210A, for the HP LaserJet Pro 200 colour series. These were popular mid-size colour lasers for offices that needed presentable colour without moving up to a departmental machine, and plenty are still in daily service.

Genuine or compatible?
Genuine, Original HP, sealed box. Not a refill and not our Royal house brand, which we always sell under its own name. On a four-cartridge colour laser the black does most of the work, so it is the one that gets replaced most often and the one where people are most tempted to economise. The catch is that a black which fuses differently from the three colours around it shows as a dull or patchy finish on mixed pages. Getting the most from this cartridge
- Rock the cartridge gently before installing and avoid touching the drum surface underneath.
- Keep spares boxed and upright. Light degrades the drum coating and heat makes toner clump.
- Black empties fastest on this machine because most office printing is text. Buying black on its own rather than as part of a set is usually the cheaper approach.
- 1,600 pages assumes 5% coverage. Shaded tables, dark headers and logo blocks will bring that down noticeably.
