Getting the most from this cartridge
- Rock the cartridge gently end to end before fitting, then pull the sealing strip out in one steady movement.
- Handle it by the ends only. The drum surface underneath scratches easily and marks show on every page afterwards.
- Colour cartridges in a low-volume office often age out before they run out. If you print colour rarely, buy when you need it rather than stocking spares for years.
- 1,400 pages is measured at 5% magenta coverage specifically, so a page with a large red or purple graphic will consume far more than the figure suggests.

- Is there a higher-yield version? No. HP sells 125A as a standard-capacity cartridge for this series, so there is no XL equivalent.
- Do I need the other cartridges too? Eventually yes. The set is black CB540A at 2,200 pages, cyan CB541A and yellow CB542A at around 1,400 pages each.
