The Epson EB-X49 is a 3,600-lumen XGA projector built for classrooms and meeting rooms. It is the brightest projector in this price bracket and the most practical for teaching: a built-in 5W speaker, a wired network port, and a lamp rated up to 12,000 hours in eco mode mean it can be mounted once and largely left alone.

Note the native resolution is XGA 1024 x 768 in 4:3. Widescreen laptop content will show with black bars top and bottom. For text-heavy teaching and standard presentations this is fine and the brightness more than compensates; for film or widescreen video, choose a 16:9 model such as the EB-FH06.

Getting the most from this projector
Set your laptop's display resolution to 1024 x 768 when presenting; leaving it at the laptop's native widescreen resolution makes the projector rescale everything, and text goes soft. Use eco mode for daily teaching — it doubles lamp life and cuts fan noise, which matters in a quiet classroom. In dusty conditions, clean the air filter every few months; a blocked filter is the single most common cause of a projector shutting itself down mid-lesson. If you ceiling-mount it, use a proper bracket and have it fitted properly.
